▲ I want a home that I design myself.

My husband and I both work in the technology industry, and while we're busy, we also make sure to dedicate ourselves to raising our two school-aged children. Initially, we lived on the floor above our current home. Because it was the top floor, the space was small, and it was cold in winter and hot in summer, we had been thinking about moving for a long time, and it turned out to be a 12-year-long decision.

As the children grew older, the tenants downstairs moved out about six months ago. I thought it was an opportunity, so I went to Longshan Temple to ask the gods. Luckily, I got a very auspicious fortune stick, which successfully convinced my husband and in-laws to let us move.(Editor's note: This is incredibly powerful, please have the gods endorse it XD)

The reason I want to design my own home is because I feel that no one knows what I want better than me; I also feel that if I design it myself, I can truly have a home that is different from others through the accumulation of little things in the process.I've been waiting for my dream home for so many years, so I've put a lot of effort into it from the very beginning, starting with the design drawings. Everything I use in the house, including the front door, tiles, paint colors, lighting fixtures, cabinets, furniture, and appliances, was personally selected, designed, and painstakingly sourced.

As someone who loves brainstorming and creating ideas, I was responsible for leading the design style and the presentation of the final effect; my meticulous husband helped me handle the engineering details that I didn't understand, becoming my most capable partner.

We asked a general contractor to install Japanese-style "solid-base drawers" on the kitchen cabinets, a feature rarely requested by homeowners. My husband and I worked tirelessly late into the night, carefully scraping off and re-laying each misplaced tile... All our efforts were solely to ensure that our dream home perfectly matched our family's aspirations and needs. Now, every day when I come home and see my children's happy smiles, it's all worth it!

▲ Motivation for the Designer Selection

Initially, I wanted to find a soft gauze for the living room.Vertical BlindsI only found two or three stores online that offered this service. After comparing them, I felt that the information on the MSBT website was more comprehensive and abundant. When I messaged them through their Facebook fan page to inquire about related information, the admin's friendly reply, "Your place is so beautiful, I love it!" gave me a lot of confidence, and I decided to participate in this event.

MSBT offers professional consultations, providing suitable suggestions on the overall lighting and aesthetic coordination of the space; flexible and diverse...Custom curtainsThe reasonable price (I was determined to buy it even if I didn't make it :p) was another motivation for me to participate.

▲ Nordic style space design

The home's layout and decor are based on the Nordic style. The most distinctive feature of Nordic homes is their minimalist and natural style. The interior design avoids excessive decoration, leaving the stage for furniture and home furnishings to carry life memories.By using the simplest materials such as wood, cultured stone brick walls, and glass, and complementing them with clean colors such as gray, white, and blue, along with wooden floors, the idea of bringing the natural light from the outside into the home creates a warm atmosphere.

For me, the key points for choosing furniture and home decor are: simplicity, freshness, vibrant colors, clean lines, and a casual yet artistic feel full of clever design. I initially sought inspiration from IKEA's home décor suggestions and referenced furniture arrangements from websites like "Jipin Creative" and "Nordic Showcase." Additionally, the Pinterest website and app, a social media platform primarily focused on image sharing, made it easy to find various interior design inspirations.

The part of the house I'm most satisfied with is the open-plan design that connects the living room and kitchen. I love setting out candlelight, coffee, cakes, and other small treats on the dining table, so the whole family can put down our electronic devices and enjoy simple moments together in this bright and spacious environment, leaving behind negative emotions and life's pressures.

▲ Nordic style curtain design

Curtains are a crucial element in any home space. Just like a perfect fashion outfit, clothing is merely the base; it's the right accessories that elevate the overall look. This applies to various spaces...Curtain functionIn addition to creating aesthetic appeal by matching the spatial design, the selection criteria should also consider whether it meets the practical needs of the space.

The initial selection of curtain types in the competition proposal was finalized after professional consultation with the MSBT team. This resulted in a more cohesive choice for vertical curtains in the living room and Venetian blinds and zebra blinds in the children's room, better matching the overall décor.Curtain colorThe guest bathroom and master bedroom curtains were changed according to the suggestion.

Double Roller Blinds Ocean Blue

The guest room bathroom was originally planned to have honeycomb blinds, but since non-woven fabric is not suitable for hot and humid environments, waterproof aluminum Venetian blinds were chosen instead. Matching the color scheme of the mosaic floor tiles, black brushed textured slats were selected for a delicate and cohesive look. The master bedroom was initially intended to use sheer curtains to create a double-layered romantic effect, but since it's a valance window, they would appear too heavy and less grand. Therefore, blackout honeycomb blinds were chosen instead, emphasizing…Thermal insulation and constant temperatureEffect.

I thinkAfter installing the curtains, it really feels like a home! Not only has the space become more expressive, but the home has also become warmer. All the curtains are so beautiful, especially the sheer vertical blinds in the living room. I love the soft light filtering through the curtains; it's so comfortable and warm, and it also provides privacy. I can finally relax on the sofa in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows and not want to leave!

The honeycomb blinds in the master bedroom presented a completely different and wonderful effect than originally envisioned. Their simple design coordinated perfectly with the style of the surrounding wardrobe and furniture, and the complete blackout provided a perfect quality of sleep, making me start to worry about whether I would oversleep in the morning; and even when the morning sun was strong and direct, the room was still cool, and sometimes I even thought that the air conditioner had been left on all the time and I had forgotten to turn it off!

▲ My thoughts after renovating my home myself

Submitting my design to this competition not only saved me a considerable amount of money on curtains, but more importantly, it made every space in my home more charming after installing MSBT curtains. When the curtains are open, I can enjoy the sunshine; when…When the curtains are drawn, privacy is maintained, creating a space that truly belongs to the family.

Through the "Design Your Home" competition, those of us who need curtain decoration can gain a deeper understanding of curtains while preparing our project documents. At the same time, we can also experience and inspire different styles of curtain arrangement, making everyone a master of design.

I am honored to have this opportunity to share our home decoration story with you all. I would also like to thank the MSBT team for their meticulous and patient communication, which helped me complete the final piece of the puzzle for my dream home that I had been conceiving and building for 12 years.Because of you, our family is more complete!
